A critical step in the creation and advancement of medicine is being able to understand and identify protein sequences. While traditional identification methods can require a large amount of both time and resources, researchers have begun utilizing new artificial intelligence (AI) programs to help aid in the identification process. One such AI program named AlphaFold has been able to confidently identify these structures while significantly reducing the amount of time spent from six months per structure to a couple minutes. Through being able to understand these structures, researchers suggest it may lead to potential real-life applications such as developing new drugs and treatments for diseases as well as advancements in the fight against climate change.
